	In 1972 the Ford Motor Company of Australia released the new XA range of cars, the Hardtop followed with a GT version also released. These Hardtops were to be the basis of Ford`s Australian touring car racing program for many years. The Hardtop Falcons enjoyed much success at Bathurst, culminating with the Moffat Ford Dealers Team 1~2 finish in 1977. This controversional finish was arguably Ford`s greatest moment at the Mountain. Allan Moffat, John Goss & Murray Carter were the main Ford drivers of the Hardtop era. Moffat was a total professional & always had a chance of victory at Bathurst. Goss was the first to develop the Hardtops but after his great victory in 1974 he sadly fell away in later years. Carter though always underfunded was there giving it his best shot. He was rewarded with a 3rd outright in the 1978 Hardie Ferodo 1000.
