After being shot down off the coast of Germany he was taken prisoner & sent to Stalag VIIIB, after seven escape attempts he spent many days & nights incarcerated in solitary confinement. Charles Croall was born on 23rd January 1916 at Hawera, NZ. He grew up in the King Country & after the war spent his working life in the Waikato. At age 94 Charles & Ellen, his wartime sweetheart & now wife of 65 years moved to Thames to be close to their family - they both still live in Thames.
